Broaddus Hospital to host educational event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Broaddus Hospital will host an educational event focused on raising awareness, supporting early detection, and providing the community with valuable information about breast health. This event, which is open to the public, will take place on October 14, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Broaddus Hospital main lobby.

Broaddus’ radiology and mammography technologists will discuss the importance of early detection, the latest advancements in breast cancer screening, and helpful information on when and how to schedule a mammogram. Breast cancer patients and survivors who attend will be honored with a special gift.

“Breast cancer affects so many individuals and families in our community,” said Dewayne Kirkpatrick, BSRT (R)(MR), Broaddus Hospital Radiology Manager. “Our goal is to empower women and men with the knowledge they need to be proactive about their breast health and to ensure they have access to the care and resources they need.”

3D mammography is available at Broaddus Hospital. Appointments are easy to make and can be scheduled within 1-2 days of calling.

“Our staff makes scheduling a mammogram easy,” Kirkpatrick added. “We can guide patients through the referral process and get them in touch with a financial counselor to discuss covered services co-pays or deductibles.”

Broaddus CAO Dana Gould emphasized the hospital’s commitment to community health, stating, “We are dedicated to improving health outcomes by providing the community with access to education, screenings, and support. This event is a vital part of our efforts to fight breast cancer and offer hope to those affected.”

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, and early detection is crucial for improving survival rates. Broaddus encourages everyone in the community to join this important event and take steps toward protecting their health.
