Davis Medical Center earns AHA gold award for cardiac arrest treatment

Davis Medical Center has earned the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines – Resuscitation Gold Quality Achievement Award for its strides in treating in-hospital cardiac arrest. This accolade highlights the hospital’s success in improving survival rates from cardiac arrest and enhancing overall cardiovascular health outcomes.

Each year, more than 300,000 adults and children experience in-hospital cardiac arrest. Survival largely depends on the timely response of medical emergency teams and effective CPR.

“Our team follows the latest treatment guidelines established by the American Heart Association (AHA), which ensures our patients receive the most up-to-date and effective care,” said Julie Phillips, BSN, RN, CIC, Davis Health System Director of Quality and Risk Management. “These guidelines are designed to optimize patient outcomes by providing clear, evidence-based recommendations for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.”

The American Heart Association’s guidelines cover protocols for patient safety, medical emergency team response, effective and timely resuscitation (CPR) and post-resuscitation care. Get With The Guidelines applies the American Heart Association’s expertise to hospitals nationwide, aligning care with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines.

“We are pleased to recognize Davis Medical Center for its commitment to following these guidelines,” said Tia Raymond, M.D., national chairperson of the American Heart Association’s Resuscitation Systems of Care Advisory Group and a pediatric cardiac intensivist at Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas. “Hospitals that participate in Get With The Guidelines often see improved patient outcomes and improved survival rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”

Phillips reiterated Davis Medical Center’s dedication to following the latest resuscitation guidelines, adding, “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which studies show can help more patients who have cardiac arrest survive. The end goal is to ensure more people in our region can experience longer, healthier lives.”

According to Phillips, key initiatives for earning the Gold Award include adherence to evidence-based protocols, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) techniques, continuous quality improvement practices, and patient education and support.
