Davis Medical Center in Elkins is revolutionizing breast cancer diagnosis with the introduction of new 3D stereotactic breast biopsy technology. This advancement significantly enhances early detection capabilities, offering a leap forward in patient care.
“The Pristina Serena 3D / Hologic Brevera is the industry’s best technology for stereotactic breast biopsy,” said Joseph Dibacco, RT (R), the director of Diagnostic Imaging at Davis Health System. “We are now able to offer our patients a more accurate, comfortable, and efficient procedure. The patient’s experience with this new machine is unlike anything else we’ve used in the past.”
This minimally invasive procedure utilizes sophisticated imaging technology to accurately locate and sample suspicious areas in the breast. It is typically recommended for cases where abnormalities are found on a mammogram but are neither palpable nor visible through ultrasound.
Debra Howell, RT (R) (M), a mammography technologist, emphasized the importance of regular mammograms for early breast cancer detection. “Our 3D mammography catches potential issues before they become more serious. And now having access to the Hologic Brevera Breast Biopsy System, Davis Medical Center is providing the best breast care for women in the region,” Howell said. She added that patients report lower anxiety levels and greater comfort during the procedure, helped by quicker result times.
“This new technology improves the precision of our biopsies,” DMC Radiologist Alex Brown, MD, noted. “Our team is excited to leverage this advanced system to deliver better outcomes for our patients.”
The DMC Breast Center operates Monday through Friday, with select Saturday hours available for working women and those with transportation challenges. Patients can typically secure a mammogram appointment within two weeks, and breast biopsies are scheduled within the week.
“It’s understandable that women are anxious when their mammogram detects a suspicious mass or lump,” Howell said. “Timely follow-up care is our priority. We deliver results quickly, bringing greater peace of mind to our patients.”
