Gaine’s Diner reopens as The Route 20 Diner in Rock Cave, offering home-cooked comfort food

ROCK CAVE — The beloved Gaine’s Diner has officially relocated and rebranded as The Route 20 Diner, all while retaining its commitment to quality home-cooked meals and a warm atmosphere.

Now situated at the “Y” intersection in Rock Cave—almost 20 miles from its previous location on Heaston Ridge Road—the diner opened its doors for a soft opening on August 1, welcoming both loyal patrons and new faces eager to enjoy its famed comfort food.

Owner/operator Amy Wilson Detamore explained that the move was driven by two key factors: a need for more space and better visibility. “We outgrew the 512-square-foot location,” Detamore said. “It’s a better location for us.”

Since Detamore reopened Gaine’s Diner in August, the eatery has garnered significant attention from local and state media, leading to an influx of customers. “Business has been fabulous, we’ve had folks from everywhere, I mean everywhere,” Detamore said, noting that visitors have traveled from as far as Alaska and California.

In its new location, The Route 20 Diner enjoys enhanced accessibility for customers, positioned right by Rock Cave IGA and Tri-County Health Clinic. The diner’s motto, “The Gathering Place, Where Customers Become Family,” reflects its welcoming ethos.

Patrons can expect many of the diner’s classic menu items alongside exciting new offerings. Some of the daily specials include favorites like biscuits and gravy, pepper steak with onion rings, roast beef with mashed potatoes and gravy, country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy, and fish with hush puppies. Details about specials will be updated regularly on The Route 20 Diner’s Facebook page.

Located at 12765 Route 20 South Road, Rock Cave, W.Va., The Route 20 Diner can be reached at 304-924-9359. Current business hours are Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For now, the diner only accepts cash and checks until credit and debit card facilities are installed.
