Governor Justice allocates $150,000 for Sexual Assault Forensic Examination grant

CHARLESTON — Governor Jim Justice has announced that $150,000 in West Virginia Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) grant funds will be allocated to the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services.

The funds will be directed towards the hiring, retention, and training of a statewide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) project coordinator. This new coordinator will offer technical assistance to SANEs and other qualified medical providers. Additionally, they will support the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Commission by reviewing training curricula, providing subject matter expertise, and participating in workgroups and related activities.

The coordinator will also develop training modules to help qualified forensic examiners meet legislative rule requirements and training standards.

The grant, amounting to $150,000, is managed by the Justice and Community Services Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services.
