Pelvic floor therapy at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital brings new hope to Weston resident

WESTON — Wendra, a resident of Weston, has found new hope and freedom through pelvic floor therapy at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital. For years, Wendra struggled with incontinence, a condition that left her feeling depressed and housebound.

“Everything was getting out of hand. I was leaking all the time, I was embarrassed and depressed, and I didn’t want to leave the house,” Wendra said. “I had seen several urologists and I had a surgery to get a pelvic sling, but four months later it failed and I was worse off than when my problems began.”

Desperation led Wendra to search for alternative solutions. While scrolling through Facebook, she came across a post about the hospital’s new pelvic floor therapy program in Weston and decided to try it.

“Going to pelvic floor therapy was the best decision I could have made,” Wendra said. “My physical therapist, Kate Jones, was easy to talk to and she actually listened to me, really hearing what I had to say. I had previously had my issues brushed off. I was told that because I had given birth to several children, my issues were normal, but they weren’t. Kate listened and believed me.”

Wendra began attending weekly hour-long therapy sessions and soon noticed significant improvements.

“I can finally leave the house and do activities with my family, going hours without leaking,” Wendra said. “I can swim in the pool with my kids and really enjoy my life again. Through the pelvic floor therapy appointments, being listened to and having real solutions to my problems, I feel less depressed because I know I am making good progress.”

The pelvic floor therapy program at Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital addresses a range of pelvic issues for female patients, including incontinence. The therapy involves personalized care plans and teaches techniques and exercises that promote long-term pelvic health.

“This can be an embarrassing thing, but it is important to find someone you can talk to and give you the help you need,” Wendra said. “You don’t have to live in hiding if you struggle with pelvic issues like I have. Take the step to schedule a pelvic floor therapy appointment and get your life back like I was able to do.”
