US 35 near Point Pleasant features new road striping test

CHARLESTON — Motorists on US 35 near Point Pleasant will notice bright rumble strips on the highway. These are part of a new road striping test by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) in collaboration with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO).

The initiative involves testing various road striping materials to evaluate their durability under real-world conditions. “AASHTO appreciates West Virginia providing us the resources to do this work,” said Katheryn Malusky, program director of the AASHTO Product Evaluation and Audit Solutions section.

A total of 32 manufacturers are participating, with 150 different products being evaluated. The manufacturers are covering the costs of materials and application, while AASHTO will handle data collection over the next three years.

The WVDOH is supplying the test site and has placed signs to alert motorists as they approach the test area.
