West Virginia Vital Records Office enhances security and payment options for certified copies

The West Virginia Department of Health’s Health Statistics Center has announced improvements to its Vital Records Office, located at 350 Capitol Street. These enhancements focus on strengthening security and expanding payment options, providing added convenience for individuals seeking certified copies of vital records.

One significant update is the introduction of new security paper for birth, death, and marriage certificates. This paper features advanced printing technologies, which enhance the integrity and authenticity of the documents. Designed in collaboration with the West Virginia Department of Tourism, the new security paper not only fortifies protection against fraud but also highlights the scenic beauty of the state.

“We are excited to introduce these enhancements to our vital records services,” said Health Cabinet Secretary Sherri Young. “Ensuring the security and reliability of vital records is crucial, and implementing the use of new security paper represents our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in recordkeeping.”

Moreover, the Vital Records Office now accepts debit and credit card payments at its walk-up window. This addition allows customers more flexibility, complementing existing payment methods such as cash, checks, and money orders. Note that debit and credit card transactions will incur a 4% processing fee to cover associated costs.

Individuals can obtain certified copies of vital records in person from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Each copy is priced at $12, ensuring accessibility for West Virginians who need these documents for personal or official use.
